THE MAGICAL WORLD OF OLTREMARE:
LEARN AND HAVE FUN AT THE SAME TIME
Oltremare, the scientific and technological theme park in Riccione, extends over 100,000m², with sections dedicated to the themes of sea, earth and sky, With its emphasis on entertainment and discovery it provides visitors with a unique and very exciting experience. Ulisse, Italy’s most famous and inquisitive dolphin, acts as your guide around this rich and fascinating world. Inside the huge environment of “Pianeta Mare” (Sea Planet) the visitor can go on a real “underwater journey” around the vast tanks, which include some “touch pools”. You can have a one-to-one relationship with a great variety of beautiful species, such as leopard sharks, insidious moray eels, rays, and gigantic groupers, enjoying a close encounter with these fascinating creatures that live near the surface or down in the depths. There are novelties and improvements in the programme at the IMAX theatre, the Park’s hightech 3D cinema venue, with the screening of a new film called “Wild Ocean”. There’s a live show at the lagoon every day, with a thrilling aquatic spectacular led by the head of the pack, Ulisse: a chance to learn and have fun at the same time. There are many fascinating routes to follow from the world of the dolphins, exploring time, evolution and diverse types of natural habitat. “Darwin” is a glass and steel dome hosting a perfectly reconstructed prehistoric environment with alligators, bearded dragons, enormous cockroaches and prehistoric dinosaurs. In the “Pianeta terra” (Planet Earth) section, a breathtaking 3D film follows events from the birth of the Universe to the last Ice Age. The “Hippocampus” show should not be missed: an exhibition of the world’s largest sea-horses, staged in collaboration with the National Aquarium of Baltimora. The show brings together hundreds of sea-horses, representing the rarest species. Eleven different types can be seen, amongst them extraordinary dragons, camouflaged like leaves, needle fish, and bizarre invertebrates from the warm seas of the Caribbean and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. As well as the excitement of discovery, Oltremare provides lots of entertainment. In the “Fattoria” (Farm) area, there are two performances every day by Guilloux, the well-known French illusionist, winner of many international prizes. July sees the return of the popular musical “Matrimoni in Fattoria” (Marriages in the Farm), freely adapted from the famous “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”. During August, the opening hours are extended until 24.00, with dolphin shows in the evenings, as well as an exciting comedy show, which brings some of Italy’s best-known and funniest comedians to the Oltremare stage.
